About us
Welcome to Biococolife . We created this entity to bring our customers a unique choice of products derived from the humble coconut. We invite you to explore the incredible array of 100% organic products that we create from our Sri Lankan coconuts.
Throughout history the coconut, scientifically know as Cocos Nucifera has played a significant role in the economic, cultural and political lives of the Sri Lankan people. The coconuts have been in existence on the coastal regions of Sri Lanka since before the 1st century BCE.
Until 1927 Sri Lanka was the number one coconut producer in the world Today the three largest nations are Indonesia the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Our organic coconuts are sourced from the “Coconut Triangle” which has the ideal soil and climatic atmosphere for the nurturing of nutrient rich coconut.
The shell husk and frands are used to produce activated carbon, coir ropes, fertilizer and insulation. In 2021 the export value of 3,300 million coconuts exceeded 835m USD to the Sri Lankan economy.
Here we explain the differences between Coir/Fibre and Coir Pith
Coir also called coconut fibre is a natural fibre extracted from the outer husk of coconut and used in products such as floor mats, doormats, brushes, and mattresses. Coir is the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut.
Other uses of brown coir (made from ripe coconut are in upholstery padding, sacking and horticulture.
White coir, harvested from unripe coconuts, is used for making finer brushes, string, rope and fishing nets. It has the advantage of not sinking, so can be used in long lengths in deep water without the added weight of dragging down boats and buoys.
Coir pith, which is the powdery and spongy material resulting from the processing of the coir fibre. Pith is chemically similar to coir, but contains much shorter fibres. The name coco peat may refer either to coir or the pith or a mixture, as both have good water-retaining properties as a substitute for peat.
Exploring our website you will discover the various products we supply for horticulture, as a growing medium, animal bedding, geotextiles including erosion blankets, water logs, anti-weed blankets and much more. Pots, brushes, mats, upholstery and household utensils are all organically produced.
